At least that is what I asked my OB at my last appointment...and his reply was, "well, yes a little." Josh I am sure would have replied absolutely! So, here is the down-low on my pregnancy complications.
1) The umbilical cord is not attached to the placenta in the center (where it is supposed to be) and is attached on the tippy edge of it. What does this mean? There is a good chance the baby might not get enough of the nutrients and sustenance to grow. End result...I have a very high probability of having a very pre-term baby. His last patient that had this condition had her baby at 28 weeks. But, my OB is very optimistic about me...and so am I.
2) I have a condition called vasa vellumous. Meaning the umbilical cord's purpose is to protect the 3 vessels (2 arteries and one vein) that run from the placenta to the baby. Well, in my specail case the umbilical cord is not fully covering them, and the vessels are exposed at the placental attachment. What does this mean? During delivery they could attach and the baby, or me could bleed to death...so we are probaby going to have to have a "c" section. End result: I will live through this one. Lots of you have had "c" sections...I am just a wimp and don't want to have one since I have done the other two normal.
Overall, I am not on bed-rest yet, which is so good. I am working a whole bunch this summer (until I can't reach my patients' mouths around my belly) & I am sure that I would go bananas. Thanks for all of your concern and I will keep you posted on any more details.

You sweet thing, sorry about all the fun this little one is creating. It sure is a good thing they are so worth it. As soon as you hear you have to take it easy I want to know so I can bring you something nummy for dinner!!!
wow, i've never even heard of that. i guess anything is possible. i'm sure everthing will turn out fine. we will be praying for you. and for the c-section, so many people have v-backs and do great! and if this little guy doesn't stay in until the end at least you won't gain as much weight, although they are worth every pound and stretch mark gained!
I'm sorry for all of your complications! I hope everything turns out okay. If you need any help let me know. I could watch your kids if you need a break.
Brittany I had no idea you were having complications. I am sorry to here that please let me know if there is anything you need. I would love to help. And Thanks for the comment on my blog happy mothers day to you as well. You deserve it to... again please call with anything
I am sorry to hear you are having some problems! I hope you don't have to go on bed rest, that does not sound like to much fun.
You are so cheery and positive for being thown into such a loop! C-sections suck but you get over it if it means getting that baby here the safest way possible. You are a great neighbor and i hope you will lean on me a bit more if you need to. P.S. Tell Josh thanks for the cheat notes from conference.
You are amazing! I hope everything goes okay! Good thing those little ones are so cute when they get here. That helps make up a bit for the struggles to get them here. I would love to watch your kids for you if you need a break. Take it EASY ( i know that is probably difficult for you to do)
Wow, that's a lot of info to take in, isn't it? Are you seeing the perinatologists up at McKay? I know a lot about that group from my last pregnancy, so we should have a chat. A C-section is not ideal but you'll survive. I was in the same boat you are in. Keep your head up, I'd love to help anytime you are in need!
keep in good spirits and take care of yourself!
I had no idea any of this. Bed rest might be a good idea. Pray for a c section. They're fabulous
Wow, I haven't ever heard of those complications! My sister did all c-sections and, though it isn't ideal, I'm sure you'll do great (better than the alternative, right?).
Hey Britt, Are you still going to that old fogie Dr. If you are I think you should find a different Dr. With that kind of a complication in your pregnancy it would be great to have a Dr. who is young and familiar with new technologies and up and coming info on high risk pregnancies. Did he say you at some point would have to go on bedrest? Do you guys have insurance? I can't remember. If that baby already has a hard time gettting nutrients I hope you feel better so you eat better. It's ESPECIALLY important now to get that baby some healthy food....besides cereal.....HAHAHA! Hope everything turns out okay. Love Reesh.
Cheese whiz! Sorry you have to go through of of this. I am a pro at the c-section thing. It's not so bad. I wish you the best.
Britti!! Hey, you are SUCH a strong woman! You are going to do great, as well as the little one inside! Just call me when you need me to fly up and come take care of you :) I love ya babe!
Britt, at least you know what's wrong now... that way everyone's prepared and knows how to handle everything! Scary to think that you could have a super preterm baby, but I'm sure everything will work out. As for the c-sections, they really aren't a big deal. I had one with Zay and am planning one with this one as well... you're bound to hurt somewhere or another! Let me know if you need anything!!!
Oh good luck, I really hope things go well for you and you don't have to be put on bed rest for too long! Stay positive!
Ah man! I know all about horrible pregnancy news and things being "high risk/complicated". I have never heard of those things with the umbilical cord, though. With my second son one of my (many, many) problems was that in the cord there was only 1 artery instead of 2. I'm so sorry you have to go through this, how stressful and un-fun. I hope things go well for you. The great thing is they have so much technology and they will be ready for any complications. Stay strong! We'll be thinking of you and praying for your family.
okay britt, here's my email address: agzmccleary@gmail.com :)
It was fun to talk to you for a minute on Sunday, good thing Porter was wanting to get out of Sacrament otherwise I probably wouldn't have seen you. You look great! Let me know if you need anything.
Oh Brit I'm so sorry! That is so scary! You will be in our prayers. I'll call you this week so we can talk. Love You!
I hope everything goes ok for you. I guess that means you could be having a baby in about a month or so huh? Wow! We'll pray for you.
